Substitute Teachers - Rolling Hiring!

On-Call Substitute Teachers

We are seeking to add teachers to our substitute teachers’ list for this school year! Our district supports the application and paperwork for any person with a B.A. interested in serving as an on-call substitute teacher at Great River School.

Licensed Positions: 

For all positions, we seek educators interested in extending public Montessori and focusing on anti-bias and social justice curriculum implementation.

Adolescent Elective Guide

This position will offer an engaging elective for adolescent students (7th & 8th Grade). Electives at Great River are an opportunity for students to explore creative and engaging topics. The specific topics taught can vary depending on the candidates interests and experience. Past electives have included: Gardening, Urban Farming, Film Studies, Construction Math, Creative Writing, various Art courses, and various Physical Education courses. We seek an elective that is engaging, asks students to try new things, and aligns with our school mission.

College and Career Counselor 

The College and Career Counselor position at Great River works with students and families across the high school to help visioning and planning for life beyond graduation.  This position is a touchpoint for students throughout their high school journey, including navigating course selection, building good study habits and understanding grades and GPA early in 9th grade to decisions around the IB Diploma, IB testing, PSEO, Online Courses, credit recovery and other variables throughout the high school years.  The road to planning post graduation begins in earnest with the junior Key Experience in the fall and continues with standardized testing, obtaining letters of recommendation and starting to visit schools and other options through the junior year. Ultimately, this role spends the majority of their time working with the college application process throughout the senior year, from the opening of the Common Application, through application deadlines and landing with the financial aid and decision process in the spring.    

This position is also an integral part of the regular academic program and schedule of the school and includes aspects such as in-service, community meetings, workshops, college visits and leading a Key Experience for seniors every year after they complete their IB exams. 

Elementary Classroom Guide

Elementary classroom guide leads the planning, organization, and support for a classroom of students in an authentic Montessori setting.

Elementary Special Education Guide

Lower Adolescent Social Worker

This position works collaboratively with the Student Services Department, which includes a team of four full time social workers. Social workers at Great River school serve a variety of roles that include: working on Special Education teams, both through direct work with students and consultation with the team, working with Child Find Intervention processes and offering students social emotional interventions, convening groups, consulting with classroom guides and working collaboratively on wellness initiatives with the student services team. The role of the School Social Worker is to further our mission to provide a quality Montessori education through inspiring learning environments and strong relationships based on respect for the gifts of each student.

Spanish Guide - IB and Introduction to Spanish Instruction

This position delivers instruction of introductory Spanish and IB Spanish courses. The Spanish Guide at Great River School monitors student progress, supports students in understanding concepts and skills, manages student goals and assessment within the course, carries out duties related to the operation of Great River School including community meetings, collaboration with student support specialists, special education, and colleagues teaching within the same level and department.

Extended Day Guide

(Part time - hours are steady but vary by employee). We accept applications on a rolling basis for possible openings in our elementary-aged extended hours program, Big Canoe Club. We are looking for energetic and enthusiastic staff to work mornings from 7:20-8:20 am and/or afternoons from 3:00-6:00 2-5 days per week.

Food Service Utility Worker

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented food service utility worker to join our team in a fast-paced food service environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in a restaurant, hotel, or banquet setting or schools and be comfortable working in a busy kitchen. This is an entry-level role that requires attention to cleanliness and a strong ability to work as part of a team.

FTC Team Head Coach  (FIRST Tech Challenge)

The Competitive Robotics Program at Great River is nearly 15 years old.  We’ve partnered with Avalon School to build an FTC team that includes between 6 and 10 students.  Over the years, we have hosted from 1-3 FTC teams at GRS.  Our middle school competes in FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), hosted through High TEch Kids and FIRST.  The season practices 2-3 days each week from September through January. If the team advances to the State Tournament, the season will continue into January. Competitions are typically day long events on Saturdays in November and December. The team typically competes in 2 competitions.  The team expects to practice two days a week from 4pm-7pm.

The Great River School Foundation is a 501c3 created to support the long-term financial needs of Great River School’s mission and seeks to create enduring support for students, faculty and the school’s urban Montessori learning environment.

Board Member (Parent, Teacher, Community Member)

The Great River School Board is the governing body of the school. We provide crucial oversight and guidance in the continuing operation of Great River School. Our work is especially important this spring as the Board guides the search for a new Head of School to help us continue thriving into the future. 

Nutrition Program Volunteers

Our new School Food & Nutrition Programs would like to have volunteer helpers every day of the year. Providing one-on-one positive engagement with students during serving times can be important for making important lasting impressions.

Ultimate Frisbee Adult Support

We need parent support in 2021 more than ever! Since we have limited coaching staff this year, we need supervision and chaperones at games AND practices if we are going to proceed with a season. Anyone who agrees to sign up as coach/chaperone will need to complete a background check with USA Ultimate. Kate (Ultimate Coordinator) will follow up with you about how to fulfill requirements and scheduling, etc.
